December 23, 2015

A gifted seamstress, Gram spent her life as a proud member of the I.L.G.W.U. After retirement, she spent the last 20 years with Aramark, serving students in the cafeteria at the University of Scranton.
A life-long resident of Scranton, Gram was no fan of “gallivanting” and rarely ventured outside of her hometown. She was also not a fan of “carousing,” except for that one time when she went to the Big A, had a Tom Collins and hijinks ensued. Gram did approve of shopping trips to Gerrity’s (Keyser Oak only), ironing her sheets and towels, and cleaning with bleach.
A child of the depression, Gram was a pioneer of recycling, often washing and drying shopping bags, Ziploc bags and deli containers. Also a pioneer of the new age movement, Gram had been an amateur astrologer since the 50s, and dozens of people would visit her to seek her unique brand of wisdom. A Gemini, with a Virgo rising, Gram was fiercely independent, smart and resourceful. She could re-wire a lamp, fix any small motor and even laid her own sidewalks.
When Gram wasn’t starting social movements, she enjoyed spending time with her friends, family and especially her twin great-granddaughters, Samantha Ellen and Penelope Pearl, who were the “apple of her eye.” Gram was a mentor, a friend and the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother you’d ever find. She left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone she knew, and she will be missed every single day.
